NATO Snow Day
NATO was established
shortly after World War 2, in response to the increasing aggression of the Soviet
Union. Although the USSR has collapsed, threats are ever prevalent in Europe.
NATO’s, the North Atlantic
Treaty Organization, purpose in the 21st century is collective
security. In today’s day-and-age, collective security is necessary, especially
in Europe for the safety of its citizens. With threats such as Russia, Iran,
Syria, and global terrorism, some nations need support from others, or could fall
victim. If a country is a member of NATO, they will form a bond with other
nations included in the organization. This decreases the chance for conflict between
nations, and creates a more formidable opponent for their enemies. When nations
go to war, they can feel confident that NATO will not only support them, but
provide security after the conflict has ended. NATO can provide support for
other NGO’s such as the United Nations and the Red Cross. NATO is prevalent in
every continent, taking on conflict in some of the world’s most dangerous
places.
NATO’s reputation
has come under recent scrutiny; however, I believe NATO is imperative for our
and Europe’s safety and security.
